Gypsy and Travellers

Cara support Gypsy and Travellers to enjoy the same opportunities and rights as those living in settled communities. Working in partnership with official local bodies, including those in education, primary health care, planning and housing we aim to highlight and respond to the particular needs of this community and tackle the disadvantage and discrimination that many Travellers face amongst local communities and services.

We provide a range of support including:

Ø      advice and advocacy services

Ø      housing related support services

Ø      promotion of health and well being

Ø      education for young parents

Ø      cultural events and activities.

We celebrate the richness and diversity amongst Gypsies and Travellers and are committed to working closely with these communities to ensure our services are relevant to their specific needs. We are particularly proud of our work to help young Traveller women pass their driving-licence theory tests and our annual Christmas parties for Traveller children.

We provide a culturally sensitive support service for Irish Travellers In North London. In LB Waltham Forest, Birmingham, Solihull and Luton we provide housing related support services to the wider Gypsy and Traveller communities.

We campaign for the rights of Travelling communities to live in harmony with the settled people and make a vibrant contribution to the local community.
