Equality and diversity
Cara recognises that we work in a diverse and multi-racial society in which many groups and individuals are disadvantaged. We believe that diversity benefits society and we are committed to playing a positive role in fighting discrimination.
- We will seek to ensure equality of opportunity for everyone both in the provision of housing services and the employment of staff.
- We will not treat anyone (applying for housing, employment or contracts) less favourably than any other person or group because of their race, colour, ethnic origin, sex, age, religion, disability, sexuality, marital status or responsibility for dependants.
- We will, under our equality and diversity policy, help disadvantaged minority groups to benefit from our housing and support services.
- We will seek to identify the needs of disadvantaged minority groups and individuals within the community by establishing close working relationships with community and voluntary agencies.
- We will actively seek to employ staff at all levels from all sections of the community to ensure that our workforce reflects the composition of the communities and areas in which we work.
- We will collect and monitor records of the race, age, gender and disability of all those referred to us for housing, and all those applying to us for jobs, to help fulfil our commitment to equality and diversity. Equality and diversity objectives will be measured against information from monitoring enabling us to progress and meet equality targets.
- We will actively promote our commitment to equality and diversity in working with contractors, consultants, and partnership agencies.
- We will demonstrate our commitment to equality and diversity by reviewing the operation of our Board of Management and by ensuring they include representation from ethnic and other disadvantaged minority groups we serve.
- We will regularly review the operation of our equality and diversity policy and if necessary set up further programmes of action.
