Anti-Social behaviour (ASB) is anything that causes alarm, distress, nuisance or annoyance to a person. It can take many forms - it might be someone who sprays graffiti on a wall, excessive noise from neighbours, abusive or threatening behaviour, and vandalism. It can take very serious forms too - from racial harassment to threats of violence.
Anti-Social Behaviour can cost Cara a lot of money. For example, the loss of rent where flats cannot be let, removing graffiti and repairing damage or legal costs for action against people behaving in an anti-social way. These costs have to be paid for out of the rent paid by all tenants, leaving less to be spent on other more constructive areas.
Cara is committted to improving the quality of lives of tenants and the local community. One way of achieving this is by taking anti-social behaviour seriously. We will try and find solutions to the problem where possible.
If the problem is too serious for you to sort out you can report it to your support worker or housing officer. We will log each report as a separate case.
Depending how serious the ASB is, we may visit you at home the same working day, or arrange an interview with you to investigate the problem within three working days. We will use various informal methods to tackle the anti-social behaviour. We could use mediation, interviews or written warnings as well as providing support to you and others involved.
If the anti-social behaviour continues and our efforts to stop it do not work, we will take legal action. We will use a range of methods: injunctions, demoted (downgraded) tenancies, Anti-social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs) and ultimately eviction. We will support you throughout the process. We will also work with the police and other partners to tackle the problem.
