Our history
Cara: n, friend (Irish translation)
We are the only Irish provider of social housing working across England. We provide affordable housing and support, primarily for Irish people. We manage nearly 400 homes and provide support services across London, Luton, and the Midlands. We also have support services in Sheffield.
Members of the Irish community in north London established Cara in 1984 as a direct response to street homelessness in the local area. Today we operate at a national level. We contribute to the wider housing movement by supporting research, campaigning and helping to develop policy to ensure that ethnic minority issues remain high on the housing agenda.
